The Sunday Salon

I haven't posted for the Sunday Salon for several weeks because there has been no reading activity on Sundays for a while but today, thanks to my very long recovery period with this dang flu, I had nothing but time to sit and read and watch a little Dancing with the Stars on abc.com.

First the reading. I am really surprised at how fast I have read through The Princess Bride. I suppose when you are left alone at home for hours each day, without children to take care of, without dinners to prepare, you can get a lot of reading done. And that's just what I did, I got it done. The Princess Bride was a lot of fun and I look forward to discussing it with my IRL book group tomorrow evening. But first I plan to watch the movie with my kiddos once more. I'm gearing up for some yummy sword fighting scenes.

The second part of my day was spent watching TV on the computer. I just had to see Steve Guttenberg dance. How entertaining it's been! And how cool that I can go there any time I want and catch up on the Lost episodes I haven't seen. This could be addicting.

But enough about TV. Let's get back to reading. This is the end of March and I only got through two books that I planned to read. I could still finish listening to the audio version of The Namesake before the end of tomorrow. And I might pull out the Shakespeare play As You Like It to read before watching the movie that I have from Netflix. Both of those together would bring me back to an average that I am comfortable with. I suppose you'll just have to stay tuned to find out how I do. Goodnight all.

I really want to read The Princess Bride. I bought a copy for my (now ex) boyfriend and he was going to give it to me when he was done reading it. Unfortunately it was lost in fire. :(
But I will read it some day. I am really happy you enjoyed it.

I know what you mean about recovering from being sick. I have been recovered physically from being sick but it seems that everything that was interrupted by being sick still isn't back in order even though it is weeks later.

Have fun at your book group. I want to join a local one but if there are any out there they are very secretive because I can't manage to find out about them.

I was around the village where the film of 'The Princess Bride' was made while the crew was there. I'd forgotten all about it until I read this post. Mind you, most of what there was to remember was awful traffic jams. It's a village with only one way in and out!

I love the Princess Bride, but for some reason it's one of the few cases where I actually prefer the movie over the book.

Did I miss a post about your trip to Texas? Which part of the state did you visit?

I love love love The Princess Bride and because of that I can't bring myself to read the book. Maybe one day...

I love DWTS also. Doesn't Steve have such a great attitude. I love watching him even though I think he'll be going home soon. I've been having lots of fun watching some of the others this season. Apolo is still my favorite, though. :)

I adore The Princess Bride -- both in written and in screen form. Especially, though, I love the book. My copy is falling apart from too many readings; I'm constantly having to repair it.

For those who love the movie and haven't read the book, I would definitely urge you to do so! The movie is marvellous and the book is a hundred times better.

Megan-I started the book group myself because I couldn't find one to join. Just tell a few friends to tell a few of their friends, then pick a book or two to get started. It's been great so far.

Table Talk-what a cool memory! Now I'm curious about the location the movie was filmed in.

Jeane-I have a few of those. And I do like the movie better but not by a huge amount.

Trish-I visited my sister in Amarillo. I've never been to TX before. And yes, I love Gettenberg's attitude. You can tell he loves life. I'm hoping that Jason wins. That man can dance!

SheReadsBooks-that's the encouragement I want to pass along. While I like the movie better(the visuals are stunning) I think the book is wonderful and a must read for Bride fans.

Jason? He can dance, but he's also very easy to look at. :)

I've been *through* Amarillo a few times but never really spent any time there. I lived in Lubbock for a while, though, which is close (relatively, anyway). Amarillo is about 7 hours from me!

Right outside of Amarillo is Cadillac Ranch--an "art" exhibit with 6 or 7 old cars half buried in the dirt. We went by last summer and had fun spray-painting the cars (spray-paint provided). If you ever get back, it's a fun place to stop for a few minutes.

Actually I got a picture of my mom defacing a Cadillac. =) We also went to Pala Dera Canyon and the Science Museum, which was a lot of fun with 6 kids. It was a really nice visit until I got that flu the night before we left. It was the drive home that was the pits.

This is quite a coincidence: mere moments before reading your post I was putting the finishing touches on a blog entry about my newfound addiction to Dancing with the Stars. It is mesmerizing beyond all logic.

Meanwhile, I look forward to hearing what you think about the "As you Like it" (it is the newish Branagh production, right?) - I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, but I have always been intrigued by his film versions of Shakespeare (esp. Much Ado and Henry V).
