Overdue Excuses

'Nearly 30,000 overdue books were returned to the San Francisco Public Library during a recent two-week amnesty period. NBC Bay Area reported that in addition to the AWOL books, patrons "were also asked to submit 'excuses' for their lateness. One apologetic library patron, known only as 'Antonio,' blamed his tardiness on a two-month abduction by aliens, the library said".' by way of Shelf Awareness. Wow, that's an impressive number or at least it is to me. Our library hasn't had one of those in years. WE all know that our patrons are holding stuff waiting for us to have another and the director won't do it. Maybe she should see this. People don't realize how many books (and other things) don't come back to libraries every year.

Well, surely they couldn't expect him to bring the book back while he was up in a spaceship, could they?

I never knew libraries did this, but it makes sense. They get books back that would never be seen again (it sounds like), and the patrons are happy too. I followed the links- some of those excuses are pretty funny.
