Review: Peter Pan

Peter Pan
by J.M. Barrie

I read this story to the kiddos a couple of years ago but when I saw it on the library shelf in the book-on-tape section I thought I'd give it a listen. And what a treat I had! I am now convinced that this tale is meant to be listened to, whether read aloud by a dramatic adult or as read by Jim Dale, as I heard it. He really captures the magic of this story.

Peter Pan is the boy who wants never to grow old. He lures Wendy, along with her brothers John and Michael, to come to Neverland to be a mother to the Lost Boys, the raggle taggle group of boys who follow Peter with great devotion. They have many adventures involving pirates, Indians and mermaids.

I am so glad that I listened to this one. Whenever my juvenal side needs a little attention I will be sure to seek it out once again. Highly recommend for kids and adults alike.

I'm reading this to my ds, 7yo, right now. The first couple of chapters were a bit hard for us to get into but once the children met Peter we are enjoying it.

This makes me curious, as I've never read the story. I saw the Disney version when I was younger. I'll have to hunt for the book and check it out.

Nicola-I had that same experience when reading it to my kids but the audio version takes all the awkwardness out of it, allowing it to sound how it was meant to be.

Writer-I think the Disney version is fun. I can't recall though how closely it follows the book. But I think the book is a must read for the young at heart.

I love this book. I still read it time to time and can't wait until my daughter is old enough to hear it (she's into Cat and the Hat right now).

I read this years ago. I'll bet it would be really fun to listen to. Thanks for the suggestion, Petunia.

I'm still struggling through my book on tape--so I think I may ditch it for an "easier" book. I love Peter Pan--always have. I have a beautiful illustrated copy my sister gave me a few years ago. Glad you liked this one so much!
