Blocked Up

I think my brain has turned a non creative corner this month. I have 2 books to review but I feel unable to come up with decent reviews for them. I normally just give it my best shot and don't worry about it much, but I think the last few reviews have been substandard, not the kind of quality that I would like. So what do I do to change that? What do you all do when you're having a blog writers block?

I had a lot of trouble with my review for "Middlesex". I wrote something that came spilling out just hours after I'd read it and my thoughts were in a jumble and it was overly emotional.

I waited for a few days, re-read it, cleaned up some syntax problems and just went ahead and posted it anyway. A lot of people thought it was one of my better reviews...much to my surprise.

Take a break, take a vacation, read another book.
I decided that blogging shouldn't feel like homework.
I got sidetracked from reviews for many of my reading challenges of late.
Maybe when the weather gets worse.

cookiejar-I always write my best reviews when I'm a bit emotional. I think that's why I'm not liking what I'm writing. I am feeling emotionally ambivalent lately.

sarala-Taking a break will be easy since I don't feel much like reading right now either. It might have something to do with the three 800 page books sitting in my reading spot.

This OFTEN happens to me. I am not a writer and do not express myself well. I've just learned to live with it because I do want to record something about the books I read. Of course, I would like to wax eloquent on occasion, but it hasn't happened yet.

I say just write something, shrug your shoulders and go on to the next book. (I don't suppose a good writer would tell you that.)

Sounds like we're in the same boat Booklogged. I am not a writer, and while I try to be clever, I fear I fail more often than I succeed.

I write sucky reviews anyway so I just soldier on.

I also think it helps to take a break. And don't be too hard on yourself. Even if you feel that your review isn't as good as it could have been, I'm sure it will manage to get your impressions of the book across.

Thanks everyone for the old "keep on keepin' on" advice. I'm still not quite ready to review To Kill a Mockingbird yet but it will be very soon.

Yuck! I feel like my reviews have been a little ugh lately, but I think its because I have been posting quite some time after actually finishing them. Sometimes it helps just to get something down and then revise later...

I feel the same way. I hate publishing anything mediocre but the longer I wait the less enthusiasm I have for the book. Oh well.
